The SIA is the leading voice for the semiconductor industry and has represented U.S. semiconductor companies since 1977. Collectively, the chip industry employs a domestic workforce of 232,000 people. Over two-thirds of our members’ revenues are derived outside the United States, while 67% of our manufacturing capacity is inside this country. According to the Department of Commerce, at t $52.4 billion in total exports and over $25 billion in net exports, our industry was the second largest exporter from the United States in 2006.
SIA has long supported free and open trade. Today our industry is strongly in support of the work USTR is doing to keep the Doha WTO talks on track and moving forward in Geneva and to pursue agreements that will open markets for successful US competitors.
